About the Role
As a Musculoskeletal Specialist Physiotherapist within Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, you will provide expert physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients across outpatient clinical areas. You will participate in the Band 6 MSK rotation scheme, with rotations lasting approximately eight months. Working as an autonomous practitioner, you will manage a defined caseload with support from senior physiotherapists, delivering individualised treatment programmes for patients with diverse and complex physical and psychological conditions.

Your role includes supervising Band 5 physiotherapists, assistants, and students, contributing to evidence-based audit and research activities, and making recommendations to improve clinical practice. You will be responsible for safe use of clinical equipment, effective communication with patients and multidisciplinary teams, and supporting discharge planning. Additionally, you will work within Trust and professional guidelines, participate in GP outreach clinics, and deputise for Band 7 staff when required.

Management responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, prioritising caseloads, managing clinical risks, complying with Trust policies, reporting incidents, and providing training on manual handling and equipment use. You will also coordinate and supervise junior staff and students, make appropriate referrals, and contribute to departmental meetings and induction programmes.

Education and training are key aspects of this role. You will engage in personal development, maintain professional registration through CPD, supervise and appraise junior staff, contribute to in-service education programmes, and support the clinical education of student physiotherapists to graduate level.

Experience
Proven experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy with the ability to manage complex patient presentations autonomously. Experience in supervising and mentoring junior staff and students is essential. Participation in clinical audit and evidence-based practice is expected.

Qualifications
Registered Physiotherapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Relevant postgraduate qualifications or specialist musculoskeletal training are desirable. Commitment to maintaining competence through ongoing CPD activities and portfolio development.
