About the Role
BBC Media Operations is at the heart of teams delivering incredible content across all platforms for all audiences. The department manages craft and production operations for the BBC’s news, radio, and some sport services across London, Salford, and Birmingham, capturing, editing, and producing output 24x7 for TV, radio, and digital platforms.

The Location team is responsible for resourcing and supporting outside broadcasts, News and Production Services who supply and support kit to self-shooters. The team works on some of the BBC’s highest profile events ranging from music festivals like Glastonbury and the Proms, to major sporting events such as the Euros and Olympics, as well as news coverage including Party Conferences, elections, and breaking news events.

Operations Technicians deliver a high-quality support service by providing portable recording equipment, accessories, and related consumables. They ensure equipment is maintained, available, allocated to programme teams as required, and monitored to maximize asset utilization. They advise programme makers on the use of hired kit and understand the pressures faced by production teams.

Key responsibilities include preparing and maintaining equipment, liaising with programme teams regarding their requests, advising on equipment setup, and accurately recording and tracking asset movements.

Experience
- Experience using broadcast or production equipment such as cameras and sound recording devices
- Detailed technical knowledge of audio and visual equipment used in programme making
- Understanding of managing, supplying, maintaining, and storing equipment and accessories
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Experience communicating technical information to non-technical colleagues at all levels
