About the Role
BBC Verify is seeking a Senior Data Journalist to join its team based at Broadcasting House in London. This one-year fixed-term contract covers the full news agenda, from domestic to international stories. The successful candidate will find and develop original news stories using their data journalism skills, supporting both daily and investigative output. Collaboration across various teams within the BBC newsroom is a key part of this role.

This is an excellent opportunity to become a vital member of a well-established, high-profile data journalism team comprising data journalists, data scientists, data designers and statisticians. BBC Verify focuses on mis- and disinformation, fact-checking, and open source reporting, with work reaching wide online, TV, and radio audiences.

Recent examples of the team’s work include investigations into falsified documents to evade tax, climate impact analyses, reporting on property seizures in Ukraine, battery fire dangers, and migration tracking.

As a senior data journalist, you will handle short-term graphic or data requests, live page posts, and longer-term projects and investigations. You will work swiftly with data to create clear, striking visualisations and explanations that drive headlines. Generating original story ideas based on data and pitching compelling treatments will be a core responsibility.
