Grade 3: £29,436 - £31,158 pro rata (£10,634 for 15 hours per week)
About the Role
Join the London Borough of Havering’s Passenger Travel Services team, where we pride ourselves on delivering a creative, self-driven, and customer-focused service. Our primary objective is to provide safe, quality, and cost-effective transport for adults and children with learning or physical difficulties to day centres or schools and back home.
We are recruiting 10 Passenger Assistants to support our operations based at Central Depot in Hornchurch. Your main responsibility will be to safely assist passengers with disabilities onto accessible buses, ensuring they are securely fastened with seat belts, harnesses, or wheelchairs before the bus begins its route.
Passenger Assistants will monitor passengers during journeys, liaise with drivers, clients, and transport operations regarding any delays or incidents, and may also be assigned to occasional out-of-borough trips. This role requires a caring and attentive approach to support vulnerable clients effectively.
This is a permanent, term-time only position with split shifts, offering 15 hours per week from Monday to Friday.
Experience
Experience working with vulnerable adults and children, preferably in challenging environments.

- Good written communication skills.
- Demonstrates a caring approach with a strong understanding of the needs of vulnerable clients.
- Practical, efficient, and able to prioritise workload in a busy environment.
- Enthusiastic about working within a dynamic local authority and proactive in identifying opportunities to improve quality and productivity.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including willingness to work overtime when required.
Qualifications
Desirable: Evidence of training such as First Aid, Safeguarding Vulnerable Clients, Challenging Behaviour, Sign Language, or similar courses.
