About the Role
This 12-month fixed-term contract Payroll Manager role reports directly to the Financial Controller and is based in the UK. The successful candidate will manage end-to-end monthly payroll operations using WorkDay, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing, reconciliation, and month-end/year-end close procedures. You will be responsible for PAYE/NI processing, HMRC RTI submissions, National Minimum/Living Wage compliance, and liaising with HMRC on payroll matters. The role includes managing starters and leavers, administering enhanced leave arrangements, processing statutory deductions such as court order remittances, and handling ad hoc payments including overtime and bonuses. You will assist with pension administration and workplace benefits, generate payroll reports and variance analysis, and provide payroll support to Finance and HR teams. As the primary contact for HMRC and other statutory bodies, you will also lead continuous improvement initiatives and manage ad hoc payroll projects. Additionally, you will support year-end payroll tax reporting and liaise with tax managers and external advisers on international payroll tax obligations across UK, Australia, France, Japan, Portugal, and US entities.

Experience
- Proven experience managing full end-to-end monthly payroll processes including starters and leavers
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll administration, PAYE, National Insurance, and pension compliance
- Demonstrated proficiency with WorkDay payroll module (essential)
- Experience with global payroll and tax jurisdictions, managing external international payroll providers and advisors
- Experience with month-end and year-end payroll closures including ledger reconciliations and payroll adjustments
- Experience managing international payroll in France, Japan, or Australia is highly desirable

Qualifications
- CIPP (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Payroll) or equivalent payroll qualification such as AAT or CIMA is highly desirable
- WorkDay certification or accreditation is a plus
