About the Role
We are recruiting for a Prevent Engagement Officer to join our team within the Communities Directorate. If you are passionate about safeguarding and supporting those at risk of radicalisation, committed to achieving positive outcomes, and have experience in community engagement and training, we would love to hear from you.

In this role, you will lead on the development of community engagement strategies related to Prevent, establish and maintain a community advisory group, and foster effective working relationships with a wide range of Prevent partners including police, regional engagement officers, local authority partners, health services, and other statutory and community organisations.

You will improve coordination of Prevent activities in local community settings, provide advice and support to community organisations and related businesses on safeguarding compliance, and promote the Prevent strategy locally through various channels including local media.

Supporting the development and management of local action plans and service level agreements, you will prioritise safeguarding support through training staff, managers, and foster carers, particularly via WRAP (Workshop to Raise Awareness of Prevent). You will deliver training to staff, communities, councillors, faith leaders, and other relevant sectors on Prevent, extremism, and related topics.

Working with community settings, you will identify resources to embed the Prevent strategy, increase resilience to radicalisation, and promote fundamental British values. You will also map and risk-assess local community provision, monitor safeguarding issues, and maintain proactive contact with Social Care and Designated Safeguarding Leads.

You will act as a central operational contact for MAST regarding radicalisation concerns, coordinate local partner responses, and provide advice on specific cases in line with Prevent thresholds.

Additional responsibilities include coordinating and delivering Prevent training programmes for community groups and residents, leading the Prevent community champions programme, promoting equality and diversity policies including the One Tower Hamlets and ‘No Place for Hate’ campaigns, and ensuring proper safekeeping and maintenance of council equipment.

You will also support communications internally and externally to embed the Prevent strategy, assist the Channel Panel with home visits and risk assessments, support cross-borough partnerships, and deputise for the Prevent Programme Manager as required.

Corporate Responsibilities
Actively contribute to the council’s priorities with a ‘one organisation’ approach, develop positive relationships with colleagues and communities, promote equality and non-discriminatory service delivery, support organisational change and learning, and encourage sustainability and innovation across the council.
