Our global Maritime team of over six hundred experts leads innovative international maritime planning, design, and development projects. We specialize in ports, shipyards, and maritime infrastructure, providing expert commercial, technical, and operational advice worldwide. We are among the largest and most experienced teams in port planning, shipyard and dry dock design, and dock and lock gate engineering.

Recent projects include the design of sliding caisson gates for a new port in India, the largest and most advanced shipyard in the Middle East with three dry docks spanning over 1,000 hectares, assessments of dock gates in the North East of England, and ongoing support to UK Naval Bases.

This role is ideal for engineers with dock/lock gate, floating pontoon, or similar floating structure experience seeking to work on globally significant projects. You will develop engineering design solutions for maritime civil engineering structures and dock/lock gates using steel, concrete, timber, and other materials to relevant design codes. Your involvement will span all project stages from inception through design, construction, demolition, recycling, and reuse.

You will provide technical and commercial input, liaising with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure project success. Some projects require government Security Clearances, which Haskoning will facilitate and fund.

Responsibilities include preparing designs and analyses for maritime structures, producing and reviewing calculations and drawings, guiding junior staff, preparing contract documents, undertaking structural analyses, delivering presentations, providing engineering advice, managing projects, and contributing to business development efforts locally and internationally.

Experience
- Proven experience in the development of port or shipyard infrastructure such as heavy-duty quays, dry docks, and dock gates.
- Essential experience in the design of floating steel structures including dock and lock gates, pontoons, or similar floating structures.
- Ability to lead design and analysis work with limited support.
- Experience in project management or technical management of small to large complex projects.
- Willingness to travel occasionally within the UK and overseas.
- Commitment to training junior staff, e.g., as Delegated Engineer or Supervising Civil Engineer within an ICE training scheme.
