About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join Harrow Council’s Public Health team as a Public Health Disease Prevention Nurse, playing a key role in improving the health and wellbeing of residents across the borough. Focused on prevention rather than direct patient care, you will support the development of skills, confidence and capacity within primary care and adult social care teams to deliver effective lifestyle advice and Making Every Contact Count (MECC) interventions. Through this work, you will help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, prevent long-term conditions and encourage healthier lifestyles across Harrow’s communities.

As a specialist public health resource, you will lead the development, delivery and evaluation of evidence-based training, education and quality improvement initiatives. Working closely with GP practices, adult social care services and community partners, you will provide expert advice, support and guidance to improve the quality and effectiveness of the NHS Health Checks Programme and other preventative health programmes. By using data, research and best practice, you will help drive improvements in service delivery, address health inequalities and ensure that programmes meet the diverse needs of Harrow’s population.

Experience
Experience in public health nursing or a related healthcare setting is essential. Proven ability to lead and deliver training, education and quality improvement initiatives. Experience working collaboratively with primary care, adult social care teams and community organisations is highly desirable.

About you
- Ability to lead the delivery and continuous improvement of the NHS Health Checks Programme across Harrow, helping to prevent cardiovascular disease and other long-term conditions.
- Skilled in supporting and developing primary care and adult social care staff to confidently deliver lifestyle advice and Making Every Contact Count (MECC) interventions.
- Acts as a specialist public health nurse, providing expert advice and guidance on disease prevention, health improvement and best practice.
- Capable of designing, organising and delivering high-quality training, education and coaching sessions for healthcare professionals and partner organisations.
- Collaborative approach to working with GP surgeries, adult social care teams and community organisations to improve health outcomes.
- Uses data, evidence and insight to drive service improvements, measure impact and support informed decision-making.
- Champions preventative healthcare approaches that reduce health inequalities and encourage healthier lifestyles across diverse communities.
- Leads quality improvement initiatives, supporting providers to meet national standards and achieve positive public health outcomes.
- Promotes culturally competent, compassionate and evidence-based behaviour change approaches that reflect the needs of Harrow’s diverse population.
- Influences system-wide change by building strong partnerships and strengthening the capacity and capability of the local health and care workforce.

Qualifications
Registered Nurse with current NMC registration. Relevant public health qualifications or equivalent experience in disease prevention and health improvement are required. Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining professional standards.
