About the Role
HB Public Law, one of the country’s leading shared local authority legal practices, has an exciting opportunity for ambitious and enthusiastic lawyers to join our Housing & Civil Litigation Team. HB Public Law is an innovative and ambitious Lexcel accredited legal practice serving four local authority clients, schools and other public bodies in London and the home counties. As a Housing & Civil Litigation Lawyer, you will advise and have conduct of legal files on behalf of all HB Public Law clients, including local authorities, housing associations and schools. You will provide advice, representation and undertake research in relation to housing and civil litigation matters. The team handles a varied caseload including all aspects of housing law, civil litigation, debt recovery, and other matters, with opportunities to advise councillors at licensing sub-committees.

The caseload includes:
- Housing possession, disrepair and anti-social behaviour injunctions
- Homelessness and allocations, judicial review, statutory appeals and public law challenges
- Debt recovery
- Contractual disputes
- Property litigation covering both residential and commercial property issues
- Dispute resolution
- Advising licensing (sub)-committees

This is a career graded post encompassing grades G10, G11 and MG1, with internal applications for advancement usually considered annually. Candidates from both public and private sectors are encouraged to apply.

Experience
Applications are welcomed from newly qualified lawyers as well as experienced housing or civil litigation lawyers. Candidates do not need to cover all areas but should have a specialism in one of the following: Debt Recovery, Housing Disrepair, Homelessness Appeals and Judicial Review, or General Civil Litigation.

You will take pride in delivering a high-quality service both individually and as part of a team. You should be ambitious, enthusiastic and committed to public service. The role requires the ability to manage a varied caseload and provide clear, practical legal advice.

Qualifications
Qualified solicitor or equivalent legal qualification required. Experience in local government or public sector legal practice is desirable but not essential.
