About the Role
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is one of the government’s largest public service departments, serving over 20 million citizens with a sizeable annual budget. The Estates function manages a vast estate spanning 1.4 million square metres across 800+ sites, supporting around 78,000 colleagues. DWP Estates is focused not only on maintaining buildings but on transformation, with strategic goals to optimise, invest, support sustainability, deliver cost-effective services, and foster a best-in-class working culture across the Government Property profession through to 2030.
This Risk Manager role supports the Estates Governance and Risk Lead in developing and approving the DWP Estates Directorate risk requirements. It involves attending meetings across regional offices, building and maintaining a risk management framework to identify and assess risks that may impact the reputation, safety, security, and financial health of the Estates function.

It includes developing, implementing, and reviewing risk management systems, providing risk assurance, monitoring risk events via SharePoint, and offering specialist oversight and challenge to ensure proactive risk management.
Key responsibilities include leading governance and risk networks, managing risk reporting and analysis, identifying capability gaps and training needs, contributing to internal audits, maintaining risk policies, monitoring regulatory developments, and supporting the Estates business and continuity plans.
The role requires regular travel across corporate hubs to connect with colleagues and participate in workshops, meetings, and events. Hybrid working may be available, with a minimum of 60% office attendance expected.
