Central London or Cheltenham, with frequent national travel to all UK Intelligence Service locations.

Full Time with flexible working and compressed hours possible. Very limited home working opportunities, dependent on business needs, so not expected on a regular or weekly basis.
Salary
Starting salary of £61,463 in London or £59,829 in Cheltenham.
About the Role
As Safety and Fire Lead, you will manage and coordinate fire safety and general health and safety activities across the UK’s Intelligence Services. Acting as the primary safety and fire point of contact and principal subject matter expert, you will ensure robust governance, consistent standards, and effective assurance. Your responsibilities include overseeing risk assessments, maintaining fire systems, and ensuring compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
You will develop mitigation plans, implement fire safety procedures, provide expert guidance, conduct investigations, and identify areas for improvement. Working within the Safety, Fire and Wellbeing team, you will collaborate with management, colleagues, and partners to communicate fire and safety information, deliver training programmes, conduct audits, and ensure safety, health, and wellbeing are central to operations.
This role requires a proactive and analytical approach, maintaining independence from risk owners and decision-making processes while managing risks effectively.
Experience
Extensive experience overseeing safety and fire risk management in complex environments. Previous safety industry experience in auditing, assurance, or risk assessment roles is essential. Experience operating within a Three Lines of Defence model, specifically in the second line of defence, is required.
Working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulatory frameworks, and governance standards is necessary.

Collaborative and communicative with confidence to deliver training programmes and challenge stakeholders to improve processes. You take a proactive, analytical approach to ensure safety arrangements and controls are implemented, maintained, and reviewed effectively.
Ability to handle corporate liability, enforce regulatory compliance, and manage major incident investigations without supervision.
Qualifications
National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) diploma, National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 6 diploma, or National Compliance and Risk Qualification (NCRQ) Level 6 diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice.
Supported by either an Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) certification or an International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM) certification at Certified or Chartered level.
