About the Role
This role within the Immunisation and Vaccine-Preventable Disease Division provides epidemiological and data management support across multiple areas focused on respiratory viruses. The post holder will support routine reporting, enhanced surveillance systems, and research studies related to respiratory diseases. Responsibilities include data collection, validation, quality assurance, complex data analyses, and improving databases and surveillance systems. The role involves producing routine surveillance reports with descriptive analyses and interpretation, contributing to scientific papers and projects, designing study databases, and presenting findings at conferences and meetings.
The post holder will undertake complex analytical tasks using statistical, database, and mapping software such as Excel, Access, Stata, R, ArcGIS, and SQL. They will maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and partners, support training colleagues, and contribute to the continuous improvement of surveillance and research activities. This position requires managing own workload and may include line management responsibilities.

Experience
- Degree level education in science or equivalent experience in data maintenance and analysis
- Masters qualification in epidemiology, public health, or allied discipline, or equivalent specialist experience
- Knowledge and experience of basic statistical tests and descriptive epidemiology with strong analytical skills
- Experience using epidemiological and statistical software packages such as Excel, Access, Stata, R, GIS, SQL
- Proven scientific report writing skills and excellent oral and written communication
- Experience maintaining effective relationships with co-workers and key stakeholders
- Good organisational, prioritisation, and time management skills with ability to work independently
- Understanding of information governance, data protection, and confidentiality requirements

Qualifications
- Degree in science or equivalent experience
- Masters in epidemiology, public health, or related discipline preferred
- Training or experience in data validation and automated routines is desirable
- Knowledge of health and social care environment and infectious disease surveillance is advantageous
- Experience in line management is desirable
