About the Role

We are building the bank of the future and seek a Senior Data Scientist to join our Natural Language Engineering Lab. Our mission is to pioneer innovative solutions that create, maintain, and enhance Conversational Memory, enabling AI agents to interact with customers as expertly as seasoned human financial experts.
You will join a diverse team of data scientists, engineers, product owners, and specialists from around the globe, united by a vision to unlock the potential of human and machine intelligence. The Bank holds vast untapped unstructured data from customer calls, webchats, emails, and other media, and we aim to lead in harnessing this resource.
In this role, you will support all project stages, collaborating with business stakeholders to explore problem statements, analyze data assets, experiment with modelling approaches, and develop machine learning systems within an Agile environment. Your work will focus on improving customer and colleague journeys, with models impacting over 30 million customers across the UK.
You will work closely with product owners and engineers to translate business requirements into prioritized development tasks, develop experimental models and ML systems in Python, and collaborate with end users and subject matter experts to deliver impactful solutions.
Experience
- Proven experience as a data scientist working with NLP, machine learning, and Generative AI models.
- Extensive production experience in Python, including modular, Pythonic coding, familiarity with core data structures, pandas, and unit testing.
- Strong background in deep learning, machine learning, data processing, clustering, regression, and classification techniques applied to unstructured and semi-structured data.
- Track record of creating ML/LLM Ops and end-to-end pipelines on both on-premises and cloud platforms.
- Experience managing enterprise-level projects, automating and enhancing modelling structures.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure, delivering high-quality work within timelines and mentoring team members.
Desirable Skills
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) implementations.
- Experience implementing and supporting ML systems including data validation, model training, validation, and monitoring.
- Awareness of emerging trends and technologies in Natural Language Processing and Generative AI.
- Proficiency with Jenkins pipelines and scripting.
- Experience with Docker containerisation and infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform.
- Knowledge of data visualization tools like Tableau to combine structured and unstructured data.
