About the Role
As a Senior Payroll, Pensions, Expenses and Benefits Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, pensions administration, expenses management and employee benefits delivery within the Trust. You will process and validate payroll transactions including starters, leavers, contractual changes, statutory payments and salary adjustments, ensuring compliance with NHS Terms and Conditions and statutory legislation. You will administer employee expenses and benefits, supporting platforms such as Perkbox and Giltbyte Easy Expenses, and assist employees and managers with related enquiries. You will also manage NHS Pension Scheme payroll transactions and liaise with NHS Pensions and other stakeholders.
In addition, you will provide operational supervision and support to Band 4 officers, assist in managing service delivery and workforce performance, allocate workloads, monitor quality and compliance, and act as a first point of escalation for complex issues. You will contribute to staff training, recruitment, induction and wellbeing initiatives, deputise for the Team Leader, and deliver presentations as part of corporate induction programmes.
Your role will also involve maintaining accurate records and data integrity across payroll, pensions, benefits and expenses systems, producing reports and management information, supporting system upgrades and audits, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, NHS policies and Trust procedures. You will promote a professional, customer-focused service and develop effective working relationships with employees, managers, HR, Finance, NHS Pensions, HMRC and other stakeholders.
This position requires maintaining confidentiality, escalating risks appropriately, supporting payroll governance, and keeping up to date with payroll legislation, pension regulations and NHS Terms and Conditions. You will participate in mandatory training and support equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives as well as Trust Health and Safety requirements.
Experience
Proven experience in payroll processing, pensions administration, expenses and benefits management within a complex organisation, preferably NHS or public sector. Experience in supervising and supporting operational teams. Strong knowledge of NHS Terms and Conditions, Agenda for Change, Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions, NHS Pension Scheme regulations, HMRC legislation and payroll compliance requirements. Experience in using payroll and HR systems such as ESR and expense management platforms. Ability to investigate and resolve complex payroll and employee queries. Experience in producing reports, managing audits and supporting system upgrades.

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in payroll, pensions or HR administration are desirable. Evidence of continuing professional development in payroll, pensions or related fields is advantageous. Mandatory training and compliance with Trust requirements are expected.
