About the Role
The Pensions Administration Consulting team advises a wide range of public service clients, supporting some of the largest pension schemes in the UK. As a Senior Pensions Assistant at the Government Actuary’s Department (GAD), you will play a crucial role by assisting a diverse team of professionals to produce high-quality, proactive, solution-focused advice on scheme administration, management, and governance issues for public sector clients.
Your responsibilities will include supporting Pensions Technicians and Consultants in areas such as ensuring accurate benefit calculations and payments, implementing and communicating benefit changes arising from legal judgments and scheme changes, improving the quality and completeness of member data, preparing for the launch of pensions dashboards, and enhancing governance and decision-making of public sector pension schemes.
In this role, you will routinely interact with both internal and external stakeholders, including public sector pension scheme clients, scheme administrators, and members of the wider pensions industry. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential.

Experience
Assisting with project management, pensions calculations for review, and other pensions consultancy work.
Managing routine stakeholder interactions to clarify requirements, agree next steps, and resolve day-to-day issues, escalating when necessary.
Delivering allocated work to agreed timelines while monitoring progress and flagging risks.
Driving improvements to team processes and documentation and supporting consistent adoption.
Working independently within agreed parameters and seeking guidance when required.
Adapting to changing client needs and balancing conflicting priorities.
Proactively developing knowledge of pensions, pension scheme governance, and administration, especially related to defined benefits and public service pensions.
Agile working within the team and across GAD teams during key periods.
Working within GAD’s professional standards and departmental procedures.

Qualifications
Knowledge of defined benefit occupational pension schemes, including administrative functions and scheme governance (desirable).
Knowledge of public service pension provision (desirable).
Pensions qualification (PMI or similar) (desirable).
