About the Role
The Policy Team leads on reform to strengthen the Serious Fraud Office’s (SFO) ability to tackle serious and complex economic crime. This role is part of the Policy and Engagement team within the SFO’s Strategy Group. The Senior Policy Advisor will report to the G7 Deputy Head of Policy and will be responsible for leading specific policy areas, acting as the main point of contact with operational colleagues, senior leadership, and other Government departments.

The SFO investigates and prosecutes the most serious and complex cases of fraud, bribery, and corruption. The Policy Team works closely with senior leaders to develop evidence-based policy positions supporting the department’s ambitions and operational teams including Intelligence, Investigation, and Proceeds of Crime. The team identifies legislative gaps and opportunities to improve the SFO’s ability to tackle economic crime.

The role offers a high level of autonomy, allowing the post holder to pitch and develop new ideas while supporting wider Government priorities. Recent work includes proposals to financially incentivise whistleblowers, with the Government committing to explore rewarding whistleblowers of economic crime. This is an exciting time to join as the SFO leads on new proposals amid significant criminal justice reform.

Key responsibilities include leading and developing policies on economic crime issues, shaping engagement to deliver Policy Team objectives, drafting high-quality briefings for senior civil servants, monitoring policy developments affecting the SFO, and supporting wider Strategy Group work. The role requires the ability to grasp complex concepts quickly and remain flexible to address urgent policy priorities.

Experience
Previous experience in policy roles within government, law enforcement, multilateral organisations, civil society, think tanks, regulatory bodies, or the private sector is required. Candidates with operational experience in economic crime, investigations, compliance, regulation, or criminal justice who have engaged with policy development are also encouraged to apply. Experience in drafting policy papers, Ministerial submissions, or briefings is essential.

Strong communication and influencing skills are essential, alongside the ability to work collaboratively and deliver at pace. You should be adaptable and able to respond to urgent policy demands as they arise.
