About the Role
As a Senior Public Affairs Officer at The NHS Alliance, you will support the delivery of the organisation's public affairs strategy by engaging MPs, peers, government officials and political influencers in a timely and targeted manner. You will monitor political, policy and stakeholder developments and draft briefings to inform advocacy, external engagement and member support. Your role includes providing high quality political, parliamentary and stakeholder advice to colleagues, escalating issues when necessary. You will support parliamentary engagement activities such as preparing submissions to select committee inquiries, briefing spokespeople, and drafting briefings and correspondence aligned with the organisation's influencing priorities.

You will help maintain effective relationships with key external stakeholders including Royal Colleges, professional bodies, think tanks, government departments, Arms-Length Bodies and patient charities. You will contribute to planning and delivering the organisation’s engagement at political party conferences, including fringe events, stakeholder engagement and logistical support.

Serving as communications lead for key work programmes, campaigns and policy topics, you will be part of the department’s account management model. You will participate in the press office on-call rota to provide a 24/7 service to media, members and senior colleagues, and support the media team during busy periods.

Additionally, you will support the development and delivery of the organisation’s communications agency, HealthCommsPlus, providing specialist public affairs and communications support, client account management and other commercially oriented activities as required. You will also assist with administrative and operational support within the department, including diary management, travel booking, processing purchase orders and invoices, formalising minutes and action logs, preparing internal papers, supporting onboarding and induction of new starters, and providing logistical support at away days and other departmental events.

Requirements

Experience
Proven experience in public affairs, political engagement or a related field is essential. Experience working with parliamentary processes, government departments, and stakeholder engagement is highly desirable. Experience in communications or media relations is advantageous.

About you
You are a proactive and organised individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You have the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. You demonstrate sound judgement and the ability to provide clear, concise advice. You are adaptable and able to work under pressure, including participating in an on-call rota for press office support.

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in public affairs, political science, communications or a related discipline are desirable but not mandatory. A strong understanding of the UK political landscape and parliamentary processes is required.
