About the Role
HM Land Registry (HMLR) is undergoing a major transformation programme with the ambition to become the world’s leading land registry for speed, simplicity and an open approach to data. As a Senior Test Engineer (Performance Testing) within the Transformation and Technology team, you will play a key role in ensuring the performance and reliability of critical national infrastructure systems that safeguard land and property ownership valued at £8 trillion.

Your responsibilities will include advocating best practices through practical guidance, defining and maintaining performance test strategies and plans, and establishing performance testing standards, processes and governance. You will develop reusable frameworks and automation assets, integrate performance testing into delivery plans, and provide leadership to performance testers and engineers.

You will validate requirements against user demand and expected workloads, innovate tooling to assist testing tasks, and ensure clear acceptance criteria are agreed. You will design realistic user journeys and business workload models aligned with production usage patterns, and conduct various performance tests including Load, Stress, Spike, Endurance (Soak), Volume, Scalability, and Capacity Testing.

Collaboration with business and technical stakeholders is essential to define measurable non-functional requirements (NFRs). You will analyse performance test results using APM and observability tools such as OpenShift, Grafana, and Cloudwatch, monitor application health metrics, and provide tuning recommendations for application code, JVM, middleware, databases, caching, and infrastructure components.

This role requires strong collaboration with developers, architects, infrastructure, operations, and business teams to optimize system performance and ensure robust delivery of services.

- Experience in training and mentoring technical test skills.
- Broad technical knowledge across a range of tools and techniques.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with development, infrastructure, operations, architecture, and business teams.

About you
You are a proactive and experienced performance test engineer with a passion for quality and continuous improvement. You demonstrate leadership in advocating best practices and have excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are committed to delivering high-quality, reliable software solutions that support critical national infrastructure.
