About the Role
The Joint Intelligence Organisation (JIO) is seeking a creative, agile, and technically fluent Senior Visual Analyst (Graphic Designer / UX) to join the specialist Insights Hub team. Operating at the heart of government, you will bring a "visual-first" mindset to complex global data and issues, translating multi-source intelligence into clear, rigorous, and interactive visual narratives that directly influence decisions made by the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC), Prime Minister, and National Security Council (NSC). You will work under the JIO's Principal Graphic Designer, collaborating with all-source analysts to design high-quality static and dynamic information graphics, including maps, charts, diagrams, and infographics. Beyond traditional design, you will lead the organisation's focus on User Experience (UX), driving strategic change towards interactive, digital-first, and data-driven visualisations. This role offers the opportunity to innovate and modernise how intelligence is presented, ensuring outputs are as robust and rigorous as the written analysis they support. No prior national security or intelligence experience is required as full training will be provided.

Requirements

Experience
- Proficiency in industry-standard design software, particularly Adobe Creative Cloud suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), with a strong portfolio in information design or data visualisation.
- Understanding of design principles, layout, typography, and hierarchy, with the ability to negotiate design solutions under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrable experience applying User Experience (UX) principles to document or digital product design, including user journey mapping.
- Excellent ability to simplify complex concepts and large amounts of information into clear, accurate visual formats.
- Strong interpersonal and consultative communication skills to interpret requirements from non-technical stakeholders.
- Track record of identifying and implementing new design trends or tools to improve organisational outputs.

About you
- Passionate about complex problem-solving and visual storytelling.
- Creative, agile, and technically fluent with a "visual-first" mindset.
- Collaborative team player comfortable working in an interdisciplinary environment.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to national security subject matter.
- Committed to maintaining high standards of accessibility and brand stewardship.

Qualifications
- No specific qualifications required; exceptional design skills and a strong portfolio are essential.
- Experience in intelligence assessment or national security context is desirable but not essential.
- Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) such as MAPublisher, QGIS, or ArcGIS Pro is advantageous.
- Existing networks in design, visualisation, or user-centred design fields across government or international partners are beneficial but not required.
- Security clearance requirements: British nationality and ability to obtain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance are mandatory.
