About the Role
As Sister/Charge Nurse on Blundell Ward, you will provide clinical leadership and managerial oversight, leading the ward team and fostering effective multi-disciplinary collaboration. You will manage nursing staff to ensure delivery of high quality clinical care and a positive patient experience, respecting patients' customs, religious beliefs, and doctrines. You will be accountable for your professional practice in line with the NMC code of conduct and committed to continuous professional development.
You will communicate efficiently with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure seamless patient care within the trust and act as a professional nurse leader and role model. Your clinical expertise will be applied proactively to develop competence in yourself and others. You will optimise clinical resources, implement best practices in patient flow, admissions, and discharges, and monitor monthly budgets to maintain financial control.
Ensuring adequate resources and equipment, you will maintain effective communication channels within the team and escalate any concerns affecting safe practice to the Matron. You will participate in nursing and multi-professional research, audits, and quality initiatives, intervening to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff. You will lead the ward team through change with professionalism and integrity, deputising for the Matron as required.
Responsibilities include overseeing the correct administration of prescribed medication and blood products, recognising and managing emergencies, advocating for patients, monitoring length of stay, and escalating discharge barriers. You will motivate, develop, and support staff, implementing HR policies and working with Human Resources on recruitment and retention. You will participate in appraisals, ensure induction and training programmes are in place, and maintain accurate training records.
Working closely with the Practice Development Team, you will ensure nursing staff receive appropriate professional education and mandatory training. You will liaise with educational institutions to support learners and participate in staff education and assessment. You will uphold trust policies and ensure optimal skill mix, organising team meetings to encourage communication and evidence-based practice.
In clinical governance, you will ensure care standards, infection prevention, and control, and contribute to research, audit, and service redesign. You will manage risk assessments, incident reporting, and complaints, ensuring safe patient and staff handling practices. You will contribute to policy development and participate in clinical audits.
In service development, you will lead implementation of clinical and organisational models, monitor activity, and contribute to business planning. You will identify opportunities for innovation, seek patient and public feedback, and assist in protocol development and evaluation to improve service delivery.
Experience
Proven experience in clinical leadership and ward management within a nursing environment. Experience in managing budgets, staff recruitment, retention, and development. Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and implement clinical governance and quality initiatives.

Qualifications
Registered Nurse with current NMC registration. Evidence of ongoing professional development in line with NMC PREP requirements. Experience or training in clinical leadership, management, and education is desirable.
