About the Role
The Apple Services Engineering (ASE) team powers key Apple services including the App Store, Apple TV, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple Books, delivering entertainment in over 35 languages to more than 150 countries. ASE engineers build secure, end-to-end solutions, developing custom software for content processing, provider tools, server-side systems, and APIs. Leveraging Apple’s unique integration of hardware, software, and services, the team works with a unified vision that strongly emphasizes privacy, a core Apple value.
Operating at massive scale across multiple geographically dispersed data centers, ASE faces unique challenges servicing hundreds of millions of users. As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) at Apple, you will own the full infrastructure stack—from device driver performance debugging to content delivery network traffic management—handling broad and deep responsibilities.
The team primarily runs Linux systems and uses a mix of open source, vendor licensed, and internally developed tools for system configuration management, provisioning, software deployment, logging, and monitoring. Collaboration with development teams is key to delivering the best results, balancing critical thinking with practical solutions. The culture encourages partnership, innovation, and automation, with a passion for software and tooling development. Services run on mixed and hybrid platforms.
Key responsibilities include creating outstanding customer experiences, helping developers write better code faster, troubleshooting complex distributed systems on bare metal and hypervisors, participating in code reviews, continuously improving delivery processes, and evolving foundational systems to provide next-generation features at scale.
