About the Role
Adult Social Care in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where passionate, caring and committed professionals do brilliant work every day. As a Social Worker in our Joint Homelessness Team, you will make a powerful contribution to the lives of rough sleepers in Westminster. Many individuals face challenges such as losing work, relationship breakdown, traumatic life events, mental ill health, or substance misuse, which can push them into rough sleeping. Together with our charity partners, we offer accommodation and support services that help people leave homelessness behind.
You will work across a wide range of housing and outreach support services, including day centres, hostels, specialist supported housing for people with mental health problems, learning disabilities, and young homeless people. Additional services include counselling for drug and alcohol addiction, befriending, and employment and skills training.
You will join a social work team co-located with healthcare staff from the local NHS Trust, fostering a truly collaborative environment that enables you to deliver outstanding results efficiently. Developing strong links with other services and service users’ families, you will work with rough sleepers who have co-morbidities, complex social care needs, enduring mental illness, and sometimes addiction challenges.
Your responsibilities will include statutory social work assessments and the duties of an Approved Mental Health Professional. This role offers a fulfilling opportunity to help people live happier, healthier, and more secure lives, promoting their inclusion within the community.
Experience
Ideally some experience working with adults who have mental health problems. Experience working with diverse ethnic and cultural groups is beneficial.
About you
You are proactive and creative in your approach to working with service users and their families. You demonstrate a strong commitment to dignity and respect in every intervention. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills are essential. You are comfortable working in a collaborative environment and adapting interventions to individual needs.
Qualifications
You must be a qualified, registered social worker. You should be an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) or willing to train as one. A good knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance is required.
Additional Information
Westminster City Council is committed to supporting Care Leavers into the workplace. Care Leavers who meet the essential criteria will automatically be invited to interview under this scheme.
