About the Role
Join the London Borough of Newham and help build a fairer community. We are a vibrant, dynamic, and culturally rich borough with a young population and limitless potential. Our Children in Care teams provide statutory services to children in our care, their families, and support networks. Social Workers in this role deliver Circles of Support to ensure children’s happiness and safety while the Council acts as corporate parent. Our practice model centres on systemic and restorative approaches, fostering high-quality relationships and a positive team culture where good practice flourishes.
This role offers a unique development opportunity, as the service manages the majority of court work related to care proceedings. You will be fully supported by senior colleagues, Assistant Team Managers, Team Managers, Practice Development Social Workers, a comprehensive CP Chair service, and a Clinical Team of experienced Family Therapists.
We value your wellbeing and offer a flexible working policy, including remote working when not visiting children and families, modern office spaces, and clinical support to help you perform at your best. Our commitment to career progression is demonstrated by promoting over 30 qualified social workers in 2023 and 37 so far in 2024. We invest in continuous learning through our Social Care Academy, which has supported over 50 social workers in systemic higher education since 2020.
Experience
Applicants must be qualified social workers registered with Social Work England and have completed their ASYE or possess equivalent practice experience. Experience working within a service supporting children in care, including their families and support networks, is essential and must be clearly demonstrated in your CV.
Experience of practice within the UK is required.
About You
We seek energetic, empathetic social workers with a genuine interest in restorative, relationship-based practice informed by systemic thinking. You should be committed to achieving positive outcomes for children and families and eager to engage with the learning, support, and personal development opportunities Newham offers.
You will be motivated to contribute to an inclusive, anti-racist environment and support Newham’s vision of fairness and equity for all children and families.
Qualifications
Valid registration with Social Work England is mandatory. A clear understanding of working with children in care and their families is essential. No additional qualifications beyond registration and ASYE completion are specified, but ongoing professional development is encouraged and supported.
