About the Role
As a Sports and Exercise Therapy Instructor at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, you will work effectively as a member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to deliver a programme of unit-based therapeutic activities. You will apply your experience, knowledge, and skills to engage service users in exercise-based therapeutic activities, implementing best practice principles. Your role will include facilitating planned group work and individual activities, ongoing assessment and treatment of service users, and adjusting clinical interventions to meet their fluctuating needs. You will undertake delegated tasks to support the safe and smooth running of the service, ensuring that the health, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of service users are respected at all times. You will apply risk assessment and management principles in your practice and adhere to Trust requirements for violence and aggression prevention and management training relevant to the clinical area. This role involves working with service users with mental health needs who may exhibit challenging behaviours.
You will utilise evidence-based practice in your daily work, participate in audits and evaluation activities as agreed with your supervisor, and contribute to clinical governance within your clinical area. Maintaining effective communication with other professionals within the units is essential to ensure integrated team working and improve service delivery. You will communicate appropriately with service users, carers, and colleagues, using suitable methods to convey information effectively. Accurate and up-to-date electronic and written records must be maintained in accordance with professional and Trust standards, with all documentation entered on RiO.
Experience
Experience working within a multidisciplinary team and delivering exercise-based therapeutic activities is essential. Previous work with service users with mental health needs and challenging behaviours is highly desirable.
About you
You will be motivated, empathetic, and able to engage effectively with service users from diverse backgrounds. You must be able to work collaboratively within a team and demonstrate excellent communication skills. A commitment to applying evidence-based practice and maintaining professional standards is required.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in sports therapy, exercise therapy, or a related discipline are required. Training in risk assessment, management of violence and aggression, and mental health awareness is desirable or will be provided.
