About the Role
We are recruiting a Technical Assistant (Education and Engineering) to join our integrated University-wide technical team. You will support practical areas within the newly opened Sustainable Engineering and Technology Centre (SETEC), part of the School of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment, as well as the School of Education.
Key responsibilities include contributing to the day-to-day running and maintenance of teaching workshops and labs, preparing and setting out equipment for practical teaching, supporting staff and students in the use of specialist resources, and sharing responsibility for safely clearing away resources after sessions. You will ensure materials are ordered, prepared, and available to support practical teaching, while maintaining a strong working knowledge of health and safety in a technical environment.
The role involves working with a variety of practical and technical equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, design & technology and food technology equipment, and fabrication workshop machinery. Full training will be provided. You will be flexible, proactive, and have a hands-on approach, delivering excellent customer service and working effectively both independently and as part of a team.
This position is available full time, with term-time only applications also considered.
Experience
Experience of providing technical support in a similar environment is desirable. Skills or experience with 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC operation, and workshop machinery are advantageous but not essential as full training will be provided.
About you
You will be flexible, proactive, and hands-on with a strong commitment to excellent customer service. You should be able to work independently and collaboratively within a team. A good working knowledge of health and safety in a technical environment is important.
Qualifications
No specific qualifications are required; however, relevant technical skills or experience will be beneficial. Full training will be provided to support your development in the role.
