About the Role
Join Lambeth Council at an exciting time as we deliver bold ambitions for our communities through the Lambeth 2030 Plan and the transformational One Lambeth Programme. We are seeking a motivated, dynamic, enthusiastic, and innovative Welfare Benefits Adviser to join our well-established Welfare Rights Team, 'Every Pound Counts@'. This team provides vital benefit advice to ill and disabled vulnerable adults who cannot access benefits services in the community.
As part of a busy team, you will conduct benefit checks and assist clients through all stages of the benefit process. The role requires expert knowledge of welfare benefits combined with empathy and patience, as many clients have serious health issues and often require home visits. Partnership working is a key element, as most referrals come from statutory services.
This is a 12-month secondment/fixed term contract opportunity, offering a chance to make a meaningful impact within a supportive and values-driven environment.
Experience
- Recent direct experience providing detailed benefits advice and undertaking benefit checks
- Extensive knowledge of means and non-means tested benefits, disability benefits, and Universal Credit
- Experience working to deadlines and producing high-quality written submissions for reviews
- Excellent communication skills
About you
- Up-to-date, extensive knowledge of welfare rights benefits, rules, changes, and legislation
- Understanding of physical and mental health issues and their impact on claiming and retaining benefits
- Passionate about delivering high-quality advice with empathy and patience
- Ability to work independently managing a complex and diverse workload as well as collaboratively within a team
Qualifications
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and requires an Enhanced DBS check.
