About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Administrator to join the British Museum's Information Services (IS) department on a fixed-term contract until September 2027. The IS department is responsible for the technology, systems, and digital services that support the Museum's work, enabling colleagues to deliver exceptional visitor experiences, care for collections, and operate efficiently behind the scenes. This varied and rewarding role is central to the department, providing administrative support across finance, reporting, communications, and operational activities.
Working closely with the Head of Information Services and teams across the department, you will help ensure the smooth running of a busy and fast-paced service. If you enjoy a varied administrative role, have excellent organisational skills, and want to develop your career in a dynamic environment, we would love to hear from you.

The British Museum is undergoing its biggest transformation in nearly 300 years, including large-scale building and gallery changes, new ways of connecting with audiences, and evolving ways of working. Guided by the vision of our founder Hans Sloane, we aim to be a museum accessible to everyone, everywhere.

Benefits include free exhibition entry for you and guests, exclusive private views, access to reciprocal museums, a Civil Service Pension Scheme with a 28.97% employer contribution, 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays and privilege days, social and wellbeing perks, learning and development opportunities, and a 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme.

Our values—Care Deeply, Embrace the Unknown, Spark Curiosity, and Value Many Voices—are central to how we work and recruit. We encourage applicants to reflect these values throughout the application process.

You will be highly organised with excellent attention to detail and a strong customer-focused approach. Strong written communication skills are essential, including the ability to produce basic business documents such as meeting notes and procedural documentation. You must have good IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and other office systems. Excellent organisational and time management skills are required, along with accuracy when handling routine and financial processes. The ability to work effectively with colleagues across a wide range of teams and disciplines is important.
