Description
To be a member of the oncology dietetic team supporting the nutrition and dietetic management of oncology patients receiving treatment by the medical and clinical oncology, thoracic surgical and orthopaedic teams. 2 days a week of the role will be dedicated to supporting the lung oncology dietetic service. To support oncology patients receiving nutrition support on the Guys Hospital site as in-patients as well as in outpatient clinics. Further outpatient support may also be provided in the chemotherapy day unit, radiotherapy department and at the acute oncology service department. It is likely some patient reviews will be held within virtual clinics. To collaborate with relevant community teams and hospitals external to the Trust regarding patient care. To liaise with GP and community teams to organise prescriptions for oral nutritional supplements. To organise oral nutritional support supplement samples to patients for the oncology dietetic team where requested. To work closely with the oncology multidisciplinary team and oncology dietetic team to facilitate the delivery of seamless holistic care and monitoring of this patient group. To support discharge planning of patients requiring home enteral feeding and liaise appropriately with local community support teams. With some support from the oncology dietetic team, to provide advice to clinicians, patients and carers regarding provision of nutritional support for patients based on clinical evidence. To initiate and participate in service and quality improvement initiatives in line with departmental and multi-disciplinary team procedures. To undertake leadership responsibilities within the team and wider dietetic department To contribute to teaching and education of dietitians and other professional groups within the Trust To run regular patient group education sessions on first line oral nutritional support strategies To contribute to delivery of health and wellbeing events for patients living with and beyond cancer To provide clinical cover for colleagues within the oncology dietetic team where deemed suitable
