About the Role
As an Antitrust Associate at Clifford Chance, you will advise major clients from diverse sectors on complex antitrust matters worldwide. Your work will include securing clearances in challenging merger control proceedings and representing clients in multi-jurisdictional cartel, market investigation, enforcement, and dominance cases. The team also specialises in foreign direct investment (FDI) and foreign state-owned enterprises (FSR) matters, with expertise in CFIUS and trade issues in the US. You will collaborate closely with colleagues across Global Practice Groups to manage cross-border investment issues and design compliance programmes to help clients navigate antitrust and regulatory risks.

You will work across a wide range of sectors including technology, consumer goods and retail, financial services, energy and infrastructure, transport, telecommunications, and media. Your responsibilities will include multi-jurisdictional merger control analysis and filings, foreign investment control advice and filings, market investigations, cartel and abuse of dominance investigations, cooperation and licensing arrangements, antitrust litigation, state aid and subsidy control, and public procurement. You will also develop client relationships, engage in business development, and contribute to thought leadership initiatives.

Requirements

Experience
You will have strong proven working knowledge across all areas of competition law, sector-specific regulation, and public policy as a mid-level lawyer, typically gained at a city firm or a reputable overseas common law practice. You will have an outstanding academic history and first-rate legal skills, with a strong reputation among clients for providing commercial solutions. Experience collaborating with multi-jurisdictional and multi-disciplinary teams is essential.

You demonstrate excellent document drafting skills, strong communication and analytical abilities, and a high level of commercial awareness. You thrive in a team environment with high professional standards and a flexible, client-friendly commercial approach. You have a clear appetite for business development, client relationship management, and thought leadership.

Qualifications
You will possess an outstanding academic record and proven legal expertise in competition law and related regulatory areas. Your qualifications and experience enable you to advise on complex antitrust matters and manage significant client engagements effectively.
