You will assist in delivering pavement projects, including investigation reports, design, and site supervision. Your responsibilities will include carrying out road inspections and preparing treatment recommendations, demonstrating good technical knowledge of pavement design, maintenance, and construction projects. You will provide support to senior engineers within the design team, including planning, programming, and cost estimation. Develop pavement designs and prepare contract documentation in accordance with DMRB and MCHW standards. Support the development of Graduate Engineers and Apprentices. Develop designs using AutoCAD and Civil 3D and liaise confidently with clients to support project delivery. Prepare technical reports, drawings, and design calculations, and assist with fee estimates and scope documents. Ensure delivery is achieved in accordance with the company’s management systems, including health and safety, project management, and risk management.
You will join the established and experienced WSP Pavement Engineering team, working on exciting large-scale projects both in the UK and overseas. The team is growing due to recent successes and offers excellent opportunities for candidates seeking new and exciting challenges. You will assist in developing and delivering projects through various stages of design, from feasibility to detailed design and construction, working closely with a group of engineers and the Discipline Lead. The current team is diverse and well respected across the industry, and you will be expected to contribute your technical abilities to help enhance and grow the team.

Experience
- Knowledge of pavement engineering demonstrated through design and investigation experience
- Experience or knowledge of road and airfield pavement engineering projects
- Familiarity with UK pavement design methodologies and contract documentation, including MCHW/DMRB
- Understanding of material behaviour and failure mechanisms
- Knowledge of asset management principles and ability to understand and improve them
- Experience with road operation, maintenance, and renewal practices
- Experience working within a pavement engineering discipline or equivalent
About you
You will be knowledgeable and experienced in pavement engineering and ideally working towards membership of an appropriate professional engineering institution. You should be confident liaising with clients and supporting project delivery while working collaboratively within a diverse and well-respected team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
- Working towards Incorporated or Chartered status with a relevant professional engineering institution (e.g. ICE, CIHT, or similar)
- National Highways Accredited Pavement Engineer (desirable)
- Experience of non-DMRB pavement design (advantageous)
