About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to develop a unique and rewarding career within our Ground & Water team, part of the Earth & Environment business. The role involves a blend of office and fieldwork, including undertaking soil surveys, Agricultural Land Classification (ALC) assessments, Soil Resource Assessments, and contributing to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and construction projects. You will collect and manage data, assist with technical reporting, and work closely with multidisciplinary teams including Nature Advisory, Landscape, Environmental Planning, and Sustainability professionals. Supported by experienced soil scientists and environmental experts, you will gain valuable technical knowledge and professional skills while contributing to high-quality project deliverables. A typical week includes field surveys, data collection, report preparation, and collaboration across environmental disciplines. This role offers a chance to work on impactful projects and develop your expertise in soil science and environmental consultancy.
Experience
Relevant experience in soil science, environmental consultancy, land management or a related field is desirable.
About you
- A strong interest in Agricultural Land Classification (ALC), soil resource surveys and soil management.
- Good fieldwork skills and willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions.
- Understanding of UK environmental legislation and the role of soils within development projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to learn and develop technical skills through training and practical experience.
- Ability to travel to remote project locations within the UK.
Qualifications
A degree in Soil Science, Environmental Science, Physical Geography, Geology or a related discipline.
Membership of, or interest in joining, a relevant professional body such as the British Society of Soil Science (BSSS) is advantageous.
A basic understanding of GIS software is beneficial but not essential.
