WSP is seeking Civil Engineers with experience in Flood & Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) optioneering, design development, and project/programme delivery to support the growth of our expertise and technical capability. We support clients and projects throughout the UK, focusing on the Environment Agency, Network Rail, Local Authority Highways Asset Teams, Local Authority FCERM Programme Delivery, and other asset management organisations, providing designs from concept through to detailed design across a range of sectors. Experience in scour assessments, scour mitigation design, and local authority FCERM programme delivery would be beneficial but not essential. As part of the role, you will be responsible for appraising and developing outline and detailed designs for engineering flood projects including scour assessments and scour solutions, flood defences, and coastal engineering. You will lead the delivery of a wide variety of civil engineering scour, coastal, river, and flood-related assessments, appraisals, optioneering, outline design, and detailed design schemes. The role involves working with wider infrastructure clients (internal and external) in designing hydraulic structures such as culverts, weirs, walls, outfalls, and scour protection associated with large infrastructure projects in highways, rail, and property. You will prepare work schedules and specifications for contractors, carry out scour assessments and asset inspection works of above and below ground structures, and collaborate with Network Rail, local authorities, and national environmentally based organisations. You will become a key part of our national Sustainable Water Management team, which are technical leaders in the sector and foster a proactive, responsible, and collaborative work ethic. Experience
- Degree qualified in civil or flood risk engineering
- Post-degree experience in hydraulic designs associated with river or flood defence works
- Knowledge and understanding of flood and river diversion design principles and solutions
- Experience in the use of CAD or Civil 3D
- Site experience, ideally in a site supervision role
- Demonstrable contribution to the successful delivery of projects/programmes meeting quality and commercial targets
- Working towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status

Qualifications
Degree in Civil Engineering, Flood Risk Engineering, or a related discipline. Progression towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status is expected.
