You will be joining our expanding Buildings Technology Systems team as a Smart Building & System Integration technical specialist, accountable for design, project management and delivery of projects from inception through to handover to the client. Our Building Technology Systems (BTS) team provides Smart, ICT, Audio Visual & System Integration design.

As an Associate level Engineer, you will take a key technical leadership role leading from concept stage through to detailed design, managing technology design and systems integration design activities on multi-disciplinary design projects in coordination with Architects, Engineers, and specialist consultants. You will liaise with clients and stakeholders to understand, develop, and interpret their requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

You will collaborate across WSP with specialists in Security, Lighting, ICT, VT, BMS, AV to develop holistic and comprehensive Smart Building solutions. Your work will help create future-ready buildings that deliver great user experiences and innovate the building landscape.

Our team works on a variety of projects, helping clients navigate and embrace emerging technologies. We work closely with building owners, tenants, and developers on large, complex projects focusing on user experience, operational efficiency, and sustainability. Recent projects include high-rise towers such as 22 Bishopsgate and 40 Leadenhall, hyper-scale data centres, stadia like Fulham Football Club, and transformative healthcare projects such as the Monklands Hospital digital twin.

As leaders in Building Technology consultancy, our aim is to set the standard for providing specialist ICT and Smart Building consulting to clients across the built environment.

Requirements

Experience
- Demonstrated interest in emerging technologies in the built environment through practical application, research or professional experience.
- Experience in Smart Building Technology design and project delivery of medium to large building projects.
- Ability to develop, review and specify solution architectures integrating building systems with enterprise IT infrastructure, considering interoperability, cybersecurity, and operational resilience.
- Experience developing systems integration strategies bridging traditional building automation with modern IoT, cloud platforms, and enterprise systems.
- Proven ability to engage with clients, working groups, designers, and vendors to develop smart building solutions that meet client and governance criteria.
- Understanding of design, specification, and implementation of building systems technologies, including documentation of formal requirements and roadmaps.
- Capability to produce detailed design and performance specifications.
- Understanding of cybersecurity considerations for smart building implementations.
- Demonstrated understanding of emerging AI solutions relevant to the built environment.
- Experience contributing to bids and proposals and identifying opportunities within existing or new clients.
- Ability to provide clear technical leadership and guidance to project teams and junior colleagues.
- Ability to review reports and designs against smart building expectations and document risk assessments and issue resolution.
- Strong collaboration skills within multidisciplinary teams and effective communication of technical details.
- Detailed understanding of specialist building systems including MEP, BMS, fire safety, lighting, security systems, and ICT infrastructure.
- In-depth knowledge of smart building rating systems such as SmartScore and Smart Building certification; awareness of WELL, LEED, NABERS, BREEAM.

Qualifications
- CIBSE, IET, Engineering Council accreditation or equivalent experience leading to Chartership.
- Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK and capable of achieving SC-level UK security clearance.
