Southwark is undergoing one of the most exciting and ambitious regeneration programmes in London, and as a Building Control Inspector, you’ll play a key role in shaping a thriving borough focused on development, sustainability and innovation.
In this role, you will oversee building control applications for developments up to 20 storeys, ensuring compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021 and associated regulatory frameworks while delivering a high-quality, customer-focused service.
You will act as a technical specialist, providing expert advice to developers, architects, councillors and internal stakeholders; assess building control applications ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and safety standards; support enforcement activity, dangerous structures work and corporate enquiries relating to building safety; work collaboratively with statutory consultees including the London Fire Brigade and the Building Safety Regulator; and contribute to service improvements supporting the Building Control Service Improvement Plan.
This opportunity offers impact on a landmark scale, involvement in major regeneration schemes such as Elephant and Castle and Canada Water, and Southwark’s ambitious programme to deliver 11,000 new council homes. You will work with innovative construction methods and complex design proposals across residential, commercial and mixed-use schemes, championing excellence as part of a forward-thinking local authority delivering a high-performing building control service focused on growth, safety and community outcomes.
Flexible home working is supported alongside travel across the borough, promoting a balanced and collaborative approach to delivering the service.
Experience
- Proven experience working within building control in a city or urban environment, including large-scale residential and commercial developments.
- Experience delivering high-quality services within a regulated environment.
- Confident in providing expert advice to a range of stakeholders.

Qualifications
- Chartered professional status with corporate membership of one or more of the following: RICS, CABE, IStructE, ICE, CIOB, IMechE, CIAT, RIBA or IFE.
- A Class 2 Building Control professional qualification.
