About the Role

Southwark Council is preparing to open its very first children’s home, aiming to provide high-quality, personalised care close to children’s families and communities. As a Children’s Residential Practitioner (Waking Night), you will play a vital role in bringing this vision to life by ensuring children feel loved, safe, happy, healthy, and empowered to achieve their aspirations.
Your responsibilities will include providing person-centred care based on individual support plans, maintaining a safe and clean home environment, supporting meal preparation and domestic duties, administering and recording medication in line with policy, and ensuring health and safety standards are met.
You will also contribute to care planning, goal setting, record-keeping, and provide clear handovers to colleagues. The role involves outreach work such as hospital or police station visits, attending training and meetings, and actively participating in supervision and appraisal processes.
This is a permanent position with the opportunity to take on additional hours to cover annual leave or staff training. The post requires a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check (Adults' and Children's barred list).
Experience
- Significant experience working with children and young people, particularly in residential settings.
- Knowledge of child development and safeguarding practice.

Qualifications
- Ideally hold an NVQ Level 3 Residential Childcare qualification (or equivalent) or be committed to completing the NVQ Level 3 within 24 months in accordance with statutory requirements.
