About the Role

As part of the Regulatory Services Division, you will be based in the dedicated regulatory health and safety team. In this active field officer role, you will be responsible for the enforcement, advice, and guidance of health and safety legislation across a diverse range of businesses and workplaces within the borough, including licensed premises.

Your duties will include conducting risk-based inspections, leading project work to promote LA/HSE partnership priorities and local initiatives, investigating complaints and workplace accidents, responding to licensing applications, and participating in night economy enforcement.

You will identify contraventions, carry out appropriate enforcement actions based on assessed risk, prepare reports and evidence for legal proceedings, and provide evidence in court when required. This role demands excellent communication skills and the ability to initiate formal action where necessary. A working knowledge of all Environmental Health disciplines is also essential.

As a senior member of the team, you will lead enforcement and compliance activities and act as lead officer in one or more specialist areas. Experience in criminal investigation and prosecution work within an intelligence-led environment is vital, along with the ability to manage a complex caseload. You will hold relevant health and safety qualifications and possess comprehensive knowledge of the technical and legal aspects of health and safety enforcement and investigative work.

Requirements

Experience
Demonstrable experience in health and safety enforcement is essential. Experience of criminal investigation and prosecution work in an intelligence-led environment is vital. Proven ability to manage a complex caseload and lead enforcement and compliance activities.
