Salary
Building Control Surveyor (Grade 7): £38,256 - £44,685 per annum (£46,968 unconsolidated maximum achievable through performance-related progression), plus £5,000 annual market supplement
Senior Building Control Surveyor (Grade 8): £42,060 - £50,085 per annum (£52,194 unconsolidated maximum achievable through performance-related progression), plus £5,000 annual market supplement
Principal Building Control Surveyor (Grade 9): £49,056 - £57,402 per annum (£59,511 unconsolidated maximum achievable through performance-related progression)

About the Role
The London Borough of Sutton is seeking experienced and motivated Building Control Surveyors at various levels (Building Control Surveyor, Senior, and Principal) to join their accredited and dynamic team. You will manage a diverse range of domestic and commercial applications under the Building Regulations in line with your accreditation level. The role includes involvement in dangerous structures, enforcement, and demolition notices, as well as supporting the development of less experienced staff. Sutton Council offers a supportive environment with a commitment to staff training, including covering costs for achieving and renewing accreditation with the Building Safety Regulator.

This role offers hybrid working; however, daily site visits to Sutton are required. Sutton is a forward-thinking borough investing in regeneration, health, wellbeing, and education, with excellent transport links to Central London and a vibrant community focused on growth and innovation.

Requirements

Experience
Professional experience working in Building Control, ideally within Local Government. Experience managing a range of domestic and commercial projects under Building Regulations. Familiarity with enforcement, dangerous structures, and demolition notices is desirable.

About you
You will hold a professional qualification granting membership to a recognised Building Control body (e.g., RICS, CABE). You should have achieved a level of registration under the Building Safety Regulator enabling you to manage relevant projects confidently. Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with a wide variety of audiences are essential. You will be personable, supportive of colleagues, and committed to continuous professional development and team growth.

Qualifications
Membership of a recognised Building Control professional body is required. Accreditation with the Building Safety Regulator is essential or in progress. The Council supports and funds accreditation achievement and renewal.
