Building Safety Inspector

Hours
Full Time - 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Typical start time around 8am with some flexibility as the role evolves. This role requires regular on-site inspections within the borough and does not support home working.
Salary
£35,391 to £42,888 per annum
About the Role
Are you passionate about maintaining the safety of residents in council-owned buildings? Join a new team of professional building inspectors responsible for ensuring safety standards across council-managed residential blocks and estates. Your duties will include conducting health and safety inspections, monitoring fire safety, water quality, asbestos checks, and fire door inspections to residents’ dwellings to ensure compliance with current standards. You will identify any areas below standard and arrange for necessary repairs. Comprehensive training will be provided, although a basic knowledge of fire safety is advantageous. A driver’s licence is preferable but not essential. The role involves climbing stairs and ladders to access lift motor rooms and complete inspections.
Experience
- Practical understanding of building and construction services.
- Experience dealing face to face with the public in a variety of situations, including occasionally stressful ones.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders to access inspection areas.
About you
- Good understanding of building and fire safety legislation as it applies to residential buildings and estates.
- Awareness of the importance of compartmentation in ensuring resident safety.
- Reliable, professional, and able to work independently within a team environment.
Qualifications
- Essential training will be provided.
- Basic knowledge of fire safety issues is beneficial.
- Driver’s licence is preferable but not essential.
