About the Role
This role provides operational support to the Global Health Protection Director and two Deputy Directors, as well as supporting various business support functions across the Directorate. The post holder will implement and manage relevant systems and processes, working collaboratively with divisional teams including Global Operations, Global Strategy & Engagement, and the UK Public Health Rapid Support team. The role involves supporting colleagues based across multiple sites, including remote and overseas locations.
Key responsibilities include providing operational and secretariat support to senior management and internal/external meetings, identifying opportunities to improve business processes, deputising for the Business Operations Manager when required, and supporting delivery of the Directorate’s business plan and priorities. The role also involves managing diary and email systems for Directors, preparing briefings and presentations, commissioning work, undertaking research and ad hoc projects, supporting corporate projects and service reviews, and providing project support when needed.
The post holder will assist with finance management, act as a positive role model, support staff induction and development, and manage administrative staff and functions where applicable. They will ensure adherence to governance and quality policies, develop effective working relationships across clinical, scientific, academic, and corporate teams, and contribute to team and Directorate-wide professional standards and planning.
Experience
- Experience undertaking secretariat functions and administering meetings and events.
- Experience preparing reports for senior colleagues and meetings.
- Experience or understanding of budget management, business planning, and business continuity processes.
- Experience using systems to order goods and services with knowledge of relevant policies and procedures.
- Advanced IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently under tight and changing deadlines.
- Ability to organise own work and lead a team effectively, managing team dynamics.
- Ability to adapt to a continuously changing environment.
- Experience working in a public sector organisation and project management is desirable.
- Understanding of project principles, techniques, and tools is desirable.

- Educated to degree level or NVQ 6 in a business-related subject or equivalent experience.

Qualifications
