
Location
Hybrid working based at UK Health Security Agency core HQ in London. You will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of your contractual working hours (approximately 3 days a week pro rata, averaged over a month) working at the office. The HQ is modern, newly refurbished, with excellent city centre transport links and co-location with other government departments such as the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC).

About the Role
As a Business Support Officer at UK Health Security Agency, you will provide vital project support, financial and resource management, leadership, and communication within the team. You will assist project teams by maintaining project plans, supporting management information provision, and participating in working groups. You will support budget management in liaison with the Finance Business Partner, including overseeing orders and maintaining expenditure logs, as well as supporting monthly and year-end account close down processes.
In a leadership capacity, you will act as a positive role model, provide training and advice, and may undertake line management duties including appraisals, training, recruitment, and managing disciplinary or capability issues. You will supervise the business support team’s daily activities such as call handling and data input.
Effective communication is key, as you will regularly liaise with clinical and non-clinical staff, scientists, managers, corporate teams, external stakeholders, and members of the public. You will manage correspondence and decide appropriate actions.
Personal and professional development is encouraged through ongoing education and appraisal processes to build skills and competencies required for the role.
All staff are expected to adhere to UKHSA policies and contribute to corporate goals. As a Category 1 responder under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, you may be required to support emergency preparedness and response activities.

Experience
- Significant administrative/secretarial experience including developing, implementing, and maintaining office systems and handling sensitive information.
- Experience organising meetings, producing agendas, and taking minutes/action notes.
- Ability to work under pressure, handling multiple tasks and prioritising workload.
- Experience using finance systems and supporting financial analysis.
- Ability to work independently to tight and changing deadlines.
- IT skills with advanced Microsoft Office experience including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or NVQ level 6 in Business Administration or equivalent experience.
