About the Role
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is dedicated to preventing, preparing for, and responding to infectious diseases and environmental hazards to protect communities, save lives, and safeguard livelihoods. This Clinical and Public Health Fellowship offers an exceptional opportunity for registrars in Infectious Diseases, Medical Microbiology, Virology, Public Health, or Paediatrics (including Paediatric Infectious Diseases) to gain national-level experience and expertise. The fellowship involves working on major incident and outbreak investigation and management, infectious disease surveillance, guidance and policy development, research, service development, and improvement. Fellows will collaborate closely with regional reference laboratories, directorates, and divisions. An individual development plan will be tailored to the Fellow’s prior experience and interests, outlining duties, objectives, and project timelines. This 12-month Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) post is aimed at registrars currently on accredited training programmes with a National Training Number (NTN) and requires OOPE/OOPT approval from the Training Programme Director (TPD). The role includes gaining understanding of UKHSA’s national role, commissioning and financing of public health programmes, cross-divisional working, clinical input into national programmes, policy development and implementation, decision making, and outbreak response. The post is based at UKHSA scientific campuses or labs with hybrid working arrangements and requires appropriate security clearance. This fellowship is a unique chance to contribute to public health at a national level while developing valuable skills and experience in a supportive and inclusive environment.
