About the Role
You will be responsible for the organisation, management and clinical leadership of high-quality specialist Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) services, including the OPD services at HMP Highdown and CNWL’s community OPD provision in London. These services are delivered by the London Pathways Partnership, a consortium of five NHS Trusts working collaboratively to provide a network of services for complex and high-risk service users across London and the Southeast.
The services at HMP Highdown include a Progressive Psychological Informed Planned Environment (PIPE) for men with Learning Disabilities and an OPD outreach service. The community services include an OPD Integrated Community Service and a specialist primary care Mental Health Treatment Requirement service for women.
Your role will involve organising psychological and OPD provision through staffing and model development to ensure equitable, evidence-based services with robust referral and transition policies that complement sentence planning and align with OPD strategies and guidelines. You will develop effective co-working relationships with HMPPS partners to ensure OPD services are co-led effectively and that staff training and supervision are co-facilitated.
You will supervise psychologists and OPD clinicians, keeping staff updated on the latest guidance and new ways of working. Additionally, you will provide teaching and training to junior staff, psychology students and trainees, specialist nurses, and other staff members.
Active participation in departmental and Trust matters concerning Care Quality is expected, along with contributing to the maintenance and development of OPD services within the Trust and London Pathways Partnership to the highest standards. You will take an active role in local Senior Management Teams and, when appropriate, wider Health & Justice and LPP services.
Further responsibilities include contributing to business development across Health & Justice and LPP by writing tenders, presenting new business bids, and designing service models that ensure cost-effective, quality care. Where appropriate, you will lead investigations supporting disciplinary actions, complaints, and incident reviews.
You will also lead on the provision of high-quality service reports, represent OPD services in contract review meetings and national OPD and commissioning forums, and lead audit, policy, and service development for designated services. Contribution to and development of research within the Offender Personality Disorder Service Line is also expected.
Experience
Proven experience in clinical leadership within Offender Personality Disorder services or related specialist mental health services. Experience in managing complex, high-risk service user populations and working collaboratively with multi-agency partners is essential.
About you
You will be an effective leader with excellent organisational and communication skills. You should be able to develop and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based practice, and have the ability to inspire and support multidisciplinary teams. A proactive approach to business development, service improvement, and quality assurance is required.
Qualifications
Qualified Consultant Psychologist with relevant professional registration. Extensive knowledge of Offender Personality Disorder strategies, guidelines, and best practices is essential. Experience in teaching, training, and supervision of clinical staff and trainees is required.
