About the Role
The post holder will work collaboratively with consultant colleagues to provide Clinical Oncology services at Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust. Responsibilities include diagnosis and treatment of patients across hospitals, health centres, clinics, or other premises as required. The role involves continuing clinical responsibility for patients under your care, with appropriate delegation and training of staff. Domiciliary consultations may be required occasionally. The post holder will also manage patients under Sections 58, 65 and 66 of the National Health Service Act 1977 where applicable.

The role includes working in joint-clinic settings supported by other oncologists within the multidisciplinary team (MDT). Inpatient care is delivered through a ward attending rota system shared by all clinical oncology consultants, requiring approximately 2 ward cover weeks per year during which routine work is cancelled.

Teaching is an integral part of the role, with all consultants expected to participate in undergraduate teaching during clinical duties. Additional teaching responsibilities will be allocated time within the job plan.

Consultants are expected to contribute to the training and support of doctors in training, including acting as Educational Supervisors.

Clinical trial activity and research form a key element of the role, with consultants expected to engage in agreed clinical research.

Participation in clinical governance activities such as clinical audit, guideline and protocol development, and clinical risk management is required.

All consultants contribute to the management and development of their clinical service and support the smooth running of their directorate, complying with Trust policies, Standing Orders, and Financial Regulations.

The duties outlined are not exhaustive and may be adjusted as required by the clinical director. Flexibility and a collaborative approach to work are expected.
