About the Role
The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a licence to practice. You will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients, ensuring prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities, and involving patients in decisions about their care. You will collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trust's translational research portfolio, meeting the full requirements of Good Clinical Practice and Research Governance. Additionally, you will provide high-quality teaching to medical undergraduates and other healthcare professionals as required by the Clinical Director.
Performance Management
Work with medical, nursing, and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in clinical efficiency, quality of outcomes, and financial management. This includes managing locum agency spend, monitoring the drug budget, and ensuring accuracy of clinical data for the team.
Medical Staff Management
Ensure compliance with European Working Time Directive (EWTD) and New Deal for resident doctors. Participate in the recruitment of junior medical staff and be responsible for the annual appraisal of all doctors in training, Trust doctors, Clinical Fellows, and non-consultant grades as delegated by the Clinical Director/General Manager.
Governance
Review clinical outcomes using external benchmarking data, participate in clinical audits, and ensure clinical guidelines are adhered to by junior medical staff. Keep informed about best practices in specialty areas and discuss implications for practice changes with the Clinical Director.
Strategy and Business Planning
Participate in business planning and objective setting for the directorate and Trust. Represent the Trust at appropriate clinical networks and external clinical meetings as delegated by the Clinical Director.
Leadership and Teamwork
Demonstrate excellent leadership skills, work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, and chair regular meetings for the specialties. Resolve conflicts and difficult situations through negotiation and discussion.
