About the Role
The Department of Student Services at London Metropolitan University is seeking an experienced counsellor to join its busy counselling service. The role involves providing time-limited counselling to students and supervising volunteer counsellors during placement periods. Working closely with the counselling service manager and other staff, the post-holder will focus on improving access and engagement, particularly among marginalised groups, and contribute to developing an innovative and responsive service that supports students in transforming their lives and maximising their potential.
Key responsibilities include managing a drop-in service available both remotely and in person, attending relevant university events to raise the profile of the counselling service, and employing creative approaches to raise awareness and destigmatise counselling. The counsellor will collaborate with colleagues across the counselling team, Student’s Union, Partnerships department, partner institutions, and other stakeholders to enhance service reach and effectiveness.
The role also involves providing guidance and consultation to counselling staff, Student Services front office staff, Schools, and other Professional Service Departments as needed. The post-holder will develop and maintain effective working relationships with external health services and specialist partner organisations to support students with complex needs and facilitate streamlined access to tailored support pathways beyond the university.
A data-informed approach will be used to design and deliver workshops, groups, and events, utilising service data and emerging trends to shape targeted activities.
This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
