About the Role
Our Crown Court Clerks are essential to ensuring Crown Court hearings run smoothly. You will have the self-assurance to speak confidently in court, communicate effectively with the Judge and all participants, and produce accurate and timely court documents. The Crown Court Clerk training programme offers a structured yet flexible approach to developing the skills required for this vital role.
HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) administers criminal, civil, and family courts and tribunals across England and Wales. This role supports service users and colleagues within HMCTS, helping people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice. As a Crown Court Clerk, you will work closely with the clerking team to ensure the smooth running of daily court sittings, intervening in court when necessary to maximise judicial sitting time. You will take verdicts, conduct arraignments, produce court orders, and record hearing outcomes accurately and efficiently. You will also adapt to new digital systems and technologies as HMCTS continues to invest in improving justice delivery.
Experience
- Ability to speak publicly and confidently within a courtroom environment.
- Experience producing exact and time-critical documentation.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
- IT proficiency with the ability to learn and adapt to different technologies and software packages.

No specific qualifications are required; however, a commitment to public service and the ability to develop the necessary skills through the training programme are essential.
