About the Role
This is a non-operational instructional role within an establishment, focused on the day-to-day maintenance, harvesting, and cultivation of the establishment's gardens. You will ensure protected cropping is grown and harvested to the highest standards and assess accredited vocational qualifications for prisoners. The role involves maintaining soil husbandry, crop development, biological pest control, and chemical crop protection programmes in line with good horticultural practice. You will also prepare and package produce appropriately, maintain sports fields, and carry out preventative pest control measures.

The role includes instructing prisoners by inducting them into the workshop, training on health and safety, COSHH, machinery and tools usage, and tailoring learning to individual needs. You will set work schedules, manage targets and quality standards, assess prisoner skills to national qualification standards, and supervise prisoner discipline and motivation within the workshop. Additional duties include maintaining security, completing reports, logging attendance and wages, conducting equipment checks, contributing to health and safety risk assessments, and supporting product development and service delivery indicators.

The Ministry of Justice offers hybrid working arrangements where business needs allow, blending working from base locations, different MoJ sites, and home. This role must be worked within the UK. The successful candidate will be appointed to a MoJ office location, which may include Justice Collaboration Centres or Satellite Offices.

The role requires flexibility, with some public and bank holiday working dependent on shift patterns and operational needs. Part-time, flexible, and job-sharing working patterns will be considered where they meet business demands.
