About the Role
Net Zero Careers Accelerator (NZCA) is recruiting a Customer Water Quality Officer to support the delivery of safe, high quality water services across London and surrounding areas. This front line, field based role involves visiting residential and commercial properties to arrange access for water sampling, collecting and testing samples, recording results accurately, and supporting investigations into water quality issues and customer concerns. You will travel extensively across a wide geographical area including North East London, East London, Hertford, Ware, and parts of Essex. The role requires resilience, organisation, and confidence working independently outdoors in all weather conditions. You will play a vital role in protecting drinking water standards while providing a professional and reassuring service to customers. The internal title for this role is Water Quality Technician. This is a 26 week assignment on placement at Thames Water via Pertemps.
Additional Information
You will be expected to carry out around 8 to 10 water samples per day, maintain sampling equipment to required standards, and accurately record all sampling activity using digital systems including iPad-based data entry. Training will be provided to meet external regulatory standards for the role.
Experience
- A clean manual UK driving licence is essential.
- Confidence driving regularly for work and managing travel across a wide area.
- Experience in a customer facing role is beneficial.
- Comfortable carrying out unplanned visits to residential and commercial properties.
- Confident and professional in handling a wide range of customer interactions.
- Resilient and able to work independently in the field, including managing rejection or challenging situations calmly.
- Strong journey planning, time management, and organisational skills.
- Good computer skills and confidence using everyday IT systems and digital data entry.

You are organised, resilient, and confident working independently outdoors in all weather conditions. You have a strong eye for detail and take pride in completing work accurately. An interest in the water industry and a willingness to learn are important for success in this role.
Qualifications
- A clean manual UK driving licence is mandatory.
- A DBS check will be required as part of the recruitment process.
- Successful applicants will complete a 30 minute assessment and training to meet external regulatory standards.
