About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Development team at the British Museum and play an important role in supporting our fundraising activity. We are recruiting two Database and Income Processing Officers to join our Development/Fundraising Strategy and Operations team. Both roles will support fundraising by ensuring supporter, donation, and income information is accurately recorded, processed, and maintained. Working closely with fundraisers and colleagues across the Museum, you will use our fundraising CRM to manage supporter and financial data, process income, and maintain excellent data quality.

You will manage competing priorities, respond to stakeholder needs, and proactively identify improvements. Your work will ensure records are accurate, compliant, and reliable, enabling colleagues to build strong supporter relationships and make effective use of fundraising data.

While both roles share core responsibilities, one will focus more on Finance and income reconciliation, and the other on Systems, data quality, and CRM administration.

Key areas of responsibility
- Administer and maintain data within the Development CRM, performing regular housekeeping and data quality checks to keep supporter information accurate and up to date.
- Process fundraising income accurately, including Gift Aid, donations, pledges, corporate partnerships, memberships, and event-related income.
- Build effective working relationships with fundraisers and other stakeholders, providing responsive advice and support on database, income, and data-related queries.
- Proactively identify issues and opportunities for improvement, suggesting practical changes to systems, processes, and ways of working.
- Maintain high standards of data quality and ensure information is handled in accordance with data protection requirements and relevant fundraising and financial standards.
- Produce data selections for supporter communications, ensuring accuracy and appropriate suppressions.
- Provide data and reports relating to Development income and CRM data quality.

Finance-focused role: Emphasis on income processing and financial reconciliation, ensuring Development CRM data aligns with finance systems and banking information. Support Gift Aid claims, raise invoices for donors and corporate partners, and assist with audit activity.

Systems-focused role: Emphasis on CRM administration, data selections, data quality, and system effectiveness. Identify and resolve database issues, support users, identify training needs, and contribute to CRM and process improvements.

The Masterplan
The British Museum is undergoing its biggest transformation in nearly 300 years, including building and gallery upgrades, new audience engagement methods, and evolving ways of working. Guided by founder Hans Sloane’s vision of a museum accessible to everyone, this role offers the chance to be part of an exciting future transformation.

Requirements

Experience
Experience working with databases or CRM systems in a fundraising environment, including data housekeeping and maintaining accurate records. Experience of income processing, including Gift Aid claims, and handling supporter and/or financial data. Knowledge of fundraising CRM systems such as Raiser’s Edge is advantageous, as is experience running data quality checks and reports.

About you
You have a good understanding of GDPR and data protection requirements and appreciate the importance of accurate, well-maintained data in supporting successful fundraising and strong supporter relationships. You take ownership of your workload, make sensible decisions and priorities, and remain responsive to changing requirements. You work collaboratively with fundraisers and internal stakeholders, building positive relationships and translating requirements into effective database, data, or income-processing solutions.

Qualifications
No specific qualifications are required, but relevant experience and a proactive, detail-oriented approach are essential.
