As a Design Manager in the SDF (Service Delivery Framework) Roads team, you will work alongside a diverse group of professionals ranging from early career to established engineers and project managers. The team focuses on improving local and strategic road networks within the London & South East region.
The National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF) is a multi-billion-pound procurement strategy used to maintain, renew, and improve England’s Strategic Road Network (SRN). It enables regional, collaborative, and performance-based contracts for works such as pavement, civil engineering, and technology to enhance safety and efficiency.
In this role, you will lead the technical delivery of moderately complex projects, ensuring quality management of deliverables and compliance with WSP’s procedures and client requirements. You will apply expert knowledge in multi-disciplinary project delivery and manage technical design teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Taking ownership for the successful delivery of multi-disciplinary engineering projects on the framework.
- Managing and coordinating design teams and effectively communicating with all parties.
- Identifying and managing design risks.
- Planning and monitoring project performance throughout the lifecycle.
- Ensuring all deliverables and milestones meet cost, quality, and time targets.
- Providing technical checks and reviews to meet WSP’s quality management standards.
- Acting as a role model, line manager, and mentor within the Roads team.
- Championing excellent health and safety practices, including safety in design, site visit safety, and compliance with CDM regulations.
- Responding professionally to client directions and developing strong relationships with clients, peers, and stakeholders to support future business opportunities.
Experience
- Experience of large, technically complex multi-disciplinary airfield civil engineering projects.
- Understanding of client and business needs when delivering major projects, with a focus on margin and contract compliance.
- Knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., NEC) and processes is preferable but not essential.

Qualifications
- University degree relevant to civil engineering, construction, design, or related discipline.
- Chartered or Incorporated Status (MICE, MCIHT or equivalent) or equivalent demonstrable experience is preferable but not essential.
